Founded in 2024, arthene gallery has both an online presence and a physical space in the heart of German Art Nouveau—Darmstadt, located directly on the market square.

Yes—because we do both, and more. You can shop in our online store: works by emerging artists, for whom we offer an additional sales channel; works by artists who have already passed away, spanning different styles and eras. Affordable art, art as an investment—or both.

In our on-site gallery, you can browse, get advice on your own artworks, discover new artists through exhibitions, or simply have a conversation about art.

What both locations share is arthene’s central focus: art for your walls—whether painted, drawn, etched, or individually printed. 'Real' art: unique pieces with provenance and history. Art that resonates, that you connect with or grow to love. Created by new, established, or lesser-known artists, and ideally with the potential to gain in value. • We want to make 'real' art accessible, tangible, and understandable to a wider audience—so that our customers choose unique pieces over mass-produced reproductions. Art they can truly live with, enjoy for years, and perhaps one day pass on.

• We aim to 'demystify' art—by offering clear, detailed, and accessible explanations of each painting, drawing, or print, and of the artist, all based on a standardized approach.
